"She Flies Through the Air" by Jenny Treanor

A solo show featuring the found-art sculptures of Bayfield artist Jenny Treanor will open at the Red House Gallery Annex, 99 West Mill Street, in Bayfield from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.  This is a one-night only show and is free and open to the public.

Jenny Treanor is a well-known local artist who begins her process by hunting and gathering in antique stores, flea markets, thrift stores, junkyards, trash heaps, roadside ditches and forest litter.

“Items that intrigue my imagination are ones that show wear and tear,” explains Treanor.

Once she gets the bits and pieces home, Treanor allows her intuition to dictate what goes where.

“My process is like putting together a puzzle, while not having seen the finished product,” says Treanor.

The artist, who has shown at the Durango Art Center, Shy Rabbit in Pagosa and many other local venues, says she then matches patinas and works with each piece by noticing how shapes interplay.   When she reaches the point of what she considers ‘finished,’ she often is surprised as what she gets.

“The unexpected message is often surprising and always an adventure,” Treanor says.
